As far as I know, fairy tales have been around for a very long time. I have heard that they used to be very violent and terrifying, but they have changed and improved over time, and their purposes are still there. Not only have they impacted me and made a difference in my life and childhood but also in many other children all around the world. Fairy tales serve multiple purposes such as to entertain, to teach and educate children, and also allow a child to grow psychologically and use their imagination.
I always thought that fairy tales were just made up for fun. That, someone, was bored and tired of basic stories, and just wanted to change it up by being creative and using their imagination to create different stories. Stories where there is magic, magical lands, magical creatures, etc. I thought these stories were just made to entertain people, but it turns out that they have many other purposes.
Yes, fairy tales are very entertaining. We all know that they especially entertain children. Children nowadays are in love with these stories which the majority of them are told by Disney. Disney has created multiple movies, for example, princess movies such as Cinderella, Rapunzel, Snow White, Beauty and the beast, and more. But wait princesses are not the only ones that fit in the fairy tale category but also Red Riding hood, Goldilocks and the Three Bears, etc. These stories were made to entertain children but also adults and to get everyone into using their imagination.
Another purpose for the telling of fairy tales is to teach and educate children. Every story consists of a moral or life lesson. These stories, like I said are directed to children and the author or the person sharing the story hopes to teach the child right from wrong, bad and evil, and just wants the child to relate to the characters to make them reflect. For example, the story of Red Riding Hood taught me that you should always do what you are told especially from your parents, do not talk to strangers, and do not trust everything you see or hear because it has its consequences. In the story, Red Riding hood is told to go straight to her grandmother's house and not talk to anyone, but Red decides to talk to the big bad wolf and the wolf eats her grandmother and fools her. This is just one example of many other tales that consist of morals. I remember growing up and hearing this story so many times and to be honest it is fascinating how these stories can get children thinking and make them realize what is right and what is wrong. I would that fairy tales are not as scary as they used to but they still make children fear of the consequences. These morals lead to children deciding who they want to be and where they are now. They help shape and impact the child and hopefully if the tale fulfilled its purpose it leads to the child becoming a good person.

If you think about it fairy tales require lots of thinking. They require us to use our imagination in order to understand what they are saying or what point they are trying to get across. They allow children to grow psychologically and lead them to use their imagination. This leads to the child be creative. Making a child use their imagination is such a good thing, in my opinion, it allows them to unfold many things up in their brain. I feel like every child should be exposed to using their imagination and being free to believe what they want. I feel like using your imagination is such a pure and innocent part of a child. All they believe are in magical stuff and happily ever afters.
Fairy tales impact children in a very good way. The tales work as a form of entertainment and keeps them distracted. So if any day you are taking care of children or you just want to sit them down and entertain them, tell them a fairy tale or play them a movie. Fairy tales have many positive impacts on them because as they are entertained they are also gaining knowledge. They are being educated and taught right from wrong with the morals presented in the stories. not only will it educate them but it will cause them to use their imagination benefiting them psychologically. I can personally say that I myself benefited from these stories because they were educational but also very fun and played a part in my childhood. I can say that fairy tales are something I really enjoyed as a kid but also as an adult because I still really enjoy the movies and I can still relate to them.
I picked this topic because it really interested me. I was able to go back into my memories and remember how these stories impacted me. I thought it would be interesting to find out other purposes of fairy tales and why they are even told. I was also more drawn to this topic because I love fairy tales and all that make believe stuff. I enjoy them because they are really fun and I can relate to them. Honestly, I sometimes think that fairy tales can be a bit too harsh for kids. Well, I don't know if harsh would be a good word but what I mean is that some of the stories can be really sad that even lead me to cry. If I cry just imagine what it can do to a child, but overall I guess they do teach some very valuable lessons. I think that everyone should watch fairy tale movies and not think they are too old for them, because trust me they will get to you.
